Contact Lens Exams

If you are interested in wearing contact lenses, the first step to obtaining them is to make an appointment at Central New York Optometry P.L.L.C. to meet with our optometrist. Be sure to alert our staff members that you are interested in a contact lens exam, as there are a few extra steps you need to undergo during your appointment compared to getting an exam for eyeglasses. Here is some information about what you can expect during your contact lens exam.

Contact Lens Exam

An Introduction On Contact Lenses

Contact lenses are a great option for vision correction for people who do not wish to alter their appearance with the presence of glasses. Contact lenses require daily care to ensure they remain clean. Dirty or broken contact lenses can cause eye troubles. Contact lenses come in several varieties making it easy to choose one that meets your specific needs. Daily or extended wear options are available. You can purchase contact lenses that alter the color of your eyes. They are also available for those with astigmatism or the need for bifocal vision correction.

The Difference Between An Eye Exam And Contact Len Exam

Routine eye examinations and contact lens examinations are slightly different. During each of these exams, your eyes are checked for medical difficulties so that they are treated as necessary. Each type of exam also involves obtaining the right prescription strength so your corrective lenses do their job appropriately. Contact lens examinations require a fitting to ensure they do not shift out of place when they are in your eyes.

What To Expect During A Contact Lens Fitting

Upon your arrival for an eye exam, our practitioner will discuss any troubles you have with your vision. You will need to read a series of letters and/or numbers from a chart and different plates of glass are placed before your eyes to see if they sharpen the images. When your prescription is obtained, you will need to look into a piece of equipment while our optometrist sits opposite you. While they look at your eyes from the other side of the machine, they will measure the circumferences of your irises. This information is used to order the right size contact lenses. You will then be given a set of lenses to try on and our staff will assist with teaching you proper care tactics.

Reviews From Our Satisfied Patients

  • "We use Anderson Optometry for all of our family’s vision needs. Recently, we had to have our youngest fitted for new glasses and he made the experience fun for her and informative for us. We know Dr. Anderson will always take good care of our family’s eye care and that’s why we wouldn’t go to anywhere else."

  • "Dr. Anderson and his staff are so patient and friendly. Dr. Anderson prescribed me glasses and I had the toughest time picking out frames. They didn’t rush, but instead made helpful suggestions and now I have an awesome pair of frames, not to mention the fact that I can see ten times better than before. You guys are the best!"
